The Volta Region is being described as one of Ghana’s most attractive destinations for luxury weekend breaks, food lovers and high-income visitors looking for rest and relaxation.
Ghanaian cultural theorist and financier V. L. K. Djokoto says the region offers a unique mix of natural beauty and lively culture, making it especially appealing to those wanting to escape busy city life.
“The Volta Region is a remarkable place for so many reasons: Luxury weekend escapees, gourmands and high net-worth residents, in search of a revitalising retreat, have long been seduced by its blissful landscape and the enthralling culture that animates the social life of this maritime region. Technology is not going to change this part of our culture. The swigging, the gaiety, the partying — none will be replaced by a pill,” he said.
Mr Djokoto also pointed to the strong cultural values of the area, especially among Ewe communities, where respect for nature and cleanliness is deeply rooted. He said this can be seen in the region’s clean beaches, calm waters and peaceful environment.
“There is a profoundly intimate reverence residents here generally express for nature and hygiene, deeply entrenched in Ewe tradition; a portrait vividly painted by its serene clear blue seas, and spotless idyllic beaches, especially when dappled by sunlight. The oil-rich Volta Region does not just offer vast unexploited wealth; it guarantees peace of mind,” he added.
His comments come at a time when more Ghanaians are choosing to travel within the country. For many, the Volta Region is becoming a preferred option for a short but refreshing break, offering both comfort and a strong sense of local culture.
