About 15,000 aspirants set for executive NDC positions across all constituencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is proceeding with its constituency executive elections nationwide despite a court injunction restraining the party from conducting the polls in Nkwanta North in the Oti Region.

The party’s Acting Director of IT and Elections, Mahdi Jibrill, says preparations for the Nkwanta North elections are continuing because the party has not been formally served with the court order.

Speaking on Accra-based CitiNews on Thursday, October 22, he maintained that the constituency polls would take place as scheduled.

“The Nkwanta North election will come on this weekend. From what I have in the data as we speak, we have no injunction on us. Nobody has served us, and party headquarters, the general secretary, is running the election of the constituency. So for us, we know the election will go on,” he said.

The High Court in Dambai issued an interlocutory injunction restraining the NDC from conducting the elections in Nkwanta North. The order also barred the party from using or relying on a register of branch executives compiled after elections held in June and July 2026.

The nationwide constituency executive elections are scheduled for Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, as part of the party’s reorganisation programme ahead of the 2028 general elections.

About 15,000 aspirants are expected to contest various executive positions across the NDC’s 276 constituencies, according to information from the party’s elections leadership.

The positions include constituency chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, organiser, deputy organiser, communications officer, women’s organiser and youth organiser, among others.

The successful candidates will be responsible for coordinating party activities, mobilising members, managing local structures and implementing the party’s programmes within their respective constituencies.

The elections form a key part of the NDC’s preparations for the 2028 general elections, as constituency executives are expected to play an important role in grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement.

The exercise is being conducted by the Electoral Commission in collaboration with the party’s election committees in the constituencies, while the Ghana Police Service is responsible for security during the polls.
